Pine

Veneer Specification

Description

White Pine is a softwood typically stemming from a wide range of species. It has many commercial uses. As a result, there is a great variation in color and natural characteristics based upon where the tree is sourced. Veneer stems mostly from sapwood. The color of Pine sapwood can range from off-white to creamy yellow to light tan. Heartwood colors can range from pale orange to reddish brown. The transition from sapwood to heartwood is visually distinct. Pine when plain sliced will produce straight and cathedral appearing grain patterns. Rotary sliced veneer will exhibit more bold and irregular grain patterns. The grain is moderately diffused. Grain color will be darker than the veneer flitch and can range from pale reddish orange to light brown. Pine is not as dense as Douglas Fir but still exhibits a moderately fine surface texture. The small pores and closed grain provides a uniform platform for paint and stain. Pine will darken to a golden yellow color with exposure to light.

Woodport Grade

Clear. Uniformity Density = 1.0/Square Foot.

Veneer shall be sourced mainly from the sapwood of White Eastern Pine. A wide variation in sapwood flitch color shall be allowed. Pale orange colored heartwood is also acceptable. Grain colors shall be moderately diffused, pale reddish orange to light brown in color. No solid red, dark brown or black grain colors. Grain shall be straight to cathedral patterned. Irregular grain patterns are not desired but, will be allowed in moderation. Must not create visual interest or detract from the overall component finished appearance. Densely patterned circular and irregular patterns are not acceptable. Veneer shall not contain any blue, grey or rust colored stains. Natural characteristics are not desired in this grade. All natural characteristics shall be minimized in size and frequency. No knots greater than 1/8" in diameter allowed. All knots and burls must be sound/tight, (no voids). Knots and burls must blend with the veneer flitch color. Absolutely no reddish brown, dark brown or black colored knots or burls. Natural characteristics with colors matching or darker than the grain color are not acceptable. Knots and burls may not be clustered. No open knots, voids, worm holes, grain ruptures or checks are allowed. Minimal amount of yellow colored sap/pitch allowed, as specified. Resulting finished components shall be free of natural characteristics which create conspicuous visual interest except for natural veneer color and graining.
